Tucson Sino Dance

The Autumn Moon Festival this year was a great night for our group. Coincidently the Phoenix Night celebration was on the same day of the festival, October 3. We not only performed dances and watched part of the exciting show with the audience, but also enjoyed delicious moon cakes and snacks that members brought to share. The dance we brought to the concert -“Mountain Bride” - tells a story of a Chinese village girl who is getting married. The happy mood was beautifully expressed through a red fan dance. At the end of the concert, the house-full audience was brought to climax by a joint choral performance between Tucson Sino Choir and our group. The entire audience was singing along a well known patriotic song “Loving China” while we danced wearing colorful costumes representing different ethnic groups in China.

One week after the Phoenix Night celebration on October 10, we participated in two programs in the 36th annual Tucson Meet Yourself festival in downtown Tucson.  The first program was an International Fashion Show where 11 groups demonstrated a diverse ethnic culture with their unique dresses. We proudly represented the Chinese ethnic group and presented the elegant traditional woman dress – Qipao (also known as Cheongsam) as well as other Chinese style dresses.  Our Children happily joined our fashion show with much fun.  The second program was the Art Performance where we performed three Chinese folk dances. Both shows attracted a large crowd of audience.  Some of them came to invite us for future performance right away.

Things became quiet a little bit after these two big events.  We now have resumed our training classes for new dances and are getting ready for the exciting 2010 Chinese New Year Celebration.  Also, we will be happily host a dance party on November 21 at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center (1288 W River Road). In the plan are dances of various styles including ballroom, country and social dance etc. There will also be karaoke entertainment and refreshment. See the Up Coming Events section of this newsletter for more information. Come and join our party! We will have a wonderful night together singing, dancing, watching dance demo, meeting old and/or new friends, chatting or simply relaxing! Yan Xu and her party committee have been working diligently to prepare for this party. Ticket and contact information are on the flyer.
